I have a secret that I want to share with you.
It’s a secret that everyone has, everyone talks about, and that all of us blame, shame, and fight a bit.
The secret to creativity is……sleep.
Getting enough sleep is important. Our bodies heal, our brains cells grow, and our spirit rejuvenates during sleep.
Often, studies have claimed that being tired is good for your creativity. You know, getting that stroke of insight in the middle of the night is the way to go.
I beg to differ.
Maybe every once and a while that sleep deprived creativity is what you need.
Not for the creative lifestyle that I want you to have.
Because, I want you to live creativity all day, every day. I don’t want you to be creative just because you woke up at 3am worried about a bill that is late.
Sleep is the key: routine, every day, fulfilling zzzzzzzzzzzzssss.
To me, sleep is the ultimate self-care. And without self-care, creativity is not even possible.
For instance, when I’m not taking care of myself, like if my diet is off, my sleep usually is interrupted. Give me a week of off sleep: my sense of well-being starts to dwindle, and my purpose is cloudy, my creativity is in the negative.
To be abundant in your creativity, you have got to take care of yourself.
You have to take care of yourself because YOU are you greatest tool for creativity.
Sleep: 7-8 hours a night will help you to feel refreshed, ready, and open to the muse of creativity to live in you.
My practice that I want to invite you to take is: no computer/phone from 9pm-9am. Turn those electronic babies off!!!
This practice helps me wind down away from the electronics of my life, the blue spectrum light. Some days, I fail at this practice and am flipping through instragram at 11pm in bed.
But I’ll tell you what: I usually feel hungover from electronics the next day.
I know for me, I have to honor my down time in order to be present for all the other waking hours of the day.
I want you to feel and experience these few things:
The secret to creativity is taking care of yourself.
Dream, in order to insure your present being.
Sleep, in order to be the best creative being you can be.
To your creative reservoir of sleep,
